EVERTING ANATOMY
16 January - 9 February 2023 | Artist talk (via zoom) 4pm 24 January
the WORK
The language of Sissi's poetics comes from an alchemy of words originated from the context of scientific research mixed with those of interiority and personal experience.
The starting point is the reflection on the body, which through a comparison with the encyclopaedic model reinterprets the anatomy as metaphor of the existence. From the performance and the creative gesture emerges a material sign that takes the form of sculptures, installations, sculpture dresses, drawings, photographs in a continuous experimentation.
Performance has an important connecting role in her work because it explores a different access point into our mind, materials and movements to expand the way we perceive. Through site specific projects the performance creates a relationship with the environment which in my work is often identified with an idea of human body. Movements and body traces are one way to draw a distinguished vision.
In her poetic drawing practice is born inside the body and when it comes out it aligns with the outside. She prefers to draw with a continuous line to mark this relationship of continuity and the use of the ink pen allows her to draw in an introspective way, to go into details as if she was digging into a fantasy of the multilayers identities.
